The Squadron Officer College opened its doors to Air University students, faculty and alumni, Dec. 8, 2017.

The open house was an opportunity for SOC to share how it is transforming education for students, and for a chance to meet with AU faculty and staff.

“This is an opportunity for AU faculty exchange ideas, socialize, network, and hear directly from designers on how and why SOC is transforming the curriculum and integrating 21st century learning [strategies] into Professional Military Education,” said Toni Hawkins-Scribner, Squadron Officer College Technology Studio.

During the open house, members of SOC and AU Faculty Senate presented much of the curriculum with discussions and demonstrations.

“It provided a much needed avenue for faculty and staff to have the opportunity to share ideas and demonstrate SOC’s innovative thinking and practices,” Hawkins-Scribner said.

This process, according to Hawkins-Scribner, helps give a better understanding of what is taught at SOC and how future leaders receive their leadership, communication and other important skills they need to become an effective leader.

"SOS was proud to host the first AU-wide open house to showcase our redesigned curriculum and our innovative efforts to incorporate virtual reality and augmented reality technology in our curriculum,” said Col. Wayne Straw, Squadron Officer College Commander. “We hope to partner with the other schools around the circle and leverage our work to enhance their capabilities, as well as improve our capabilities after learning from other schools at future open houses."
