The Air University Teaching and Learning Center launches a completely online, self-paced Teaching Essentials Course open to all educators at AU and Air Education and Training Command on Aug. 30, 2021.

The Teaching and Learning Center will officially launch the course at a virtual “Launch ‘n Lunch Party” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The launch will include a virtual tour of the asynchronous course, followed by open discussion.

The TEC provides instructors with a foundation of knowledge, theories, skills and methods required of all instructors regardless of what they teach. While designed for newly assigned and beginning instructors, the course emphasizes current instructional strategies applicable to faculty across all levels of teaching proficiencies.

“The Teaching Essentials Course was developed by TLC teammates with over 60 years of combined experience working in higher education,” said Dr. Megan Hennessey, Teaching and Learning Center director. “It is a truly unique faculty development program within the military learning environment in that it allows maximum flexibility and customization for our unique educator population.”

The asynchronous TEC is 100% self-paced and is not cohort-based, allowing busy faculty to complete the 20 lessons, each approximately one-hour long, at any time and in any order. Facilitators are available to assist with activities and provide feedback. Lesson topics range from “The Adult Learner” to “Gamification” and “Overview of Technology.”
