Hometown News program goes electronic

Hometown news releases are now available for electronic submission through the new Maxwell Web site.

The Hometown News Release program allows Department of Defense personnel to showcase their accomplishments through electronic and print media.

"Sending hometown news releases is a great way for both military and civilian DoD employees to publicize their achievements back home," said 1st Lt. Brad Kimberly, Air University Public Affairs internal information chief. "If you graduate from one of the Air University schools, arrive from a permanent change of station, receive a major award or return from a deployment, those are excellent reasons for submitting news back your hometowns."

The electronic submission process replaces the previous paper version of the hometown news release form.

"Previously, anyone wishing to send a hometown news release needed to send a completed paper form to the public affairs office," Lieutenant Kimberly said. "That form would need to be faxed and transcribed by another agency. The process is much simpler now. You enter the information at the Maxwell Web site, attach an optional photo, and that's it."

To access the form online, go to www.maxwell.af.mil/news/hometown. After the form is submitted, the Defense Media Activity will prepare and distribute news releases to newspapers, TV and radio stations located in the town entered on the form.

"With very little time and effort, family and friends can read in their local newspapers about the great things people are doing at Maxwell, and this new system is a great way to make that happen," Lieutenant Kimberly said.
