NASA administrator to receive honorary Air University degree

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. - NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden will receive the third honorary degree conferred by Air University, in recognition of his contributions in education, government, public service and community affairs, here 9 a.m., Monday.
Administrator Bolden, an astronaut and retired Marine Corps major general, was chosen to receive an Air University Honorary Doctor of Science degree. His focus on space, along with a strong military career, is analogous with Air University's character and mission to educate the Air Force.
Previous Air University honorary degree recipients include Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (2008) and retired Air Force Col. Frank Borman (2009), also an astronaut.
Air University is the intellectual and leadership center of the Air Force. Air University prepares students to develop, employ, command, research, and champion air, space and cyberspace power at all levels. Air University's colleges and schools provide the full spectrum of Air Force education, including degree granting and professional continuing education for officers, enlisted and civilian personnel throughout their careers. Air University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The ceremony is open for media coverage. Satellite truck parking is available, but prior coordination with Air University Public Affairs is requested. Media wishing to interview the administrator must contact NASA Public Affairs at (202) 358-0668 by 5 p.m. EST, Nov. 12.
