2/17/2012 - MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Wizards take fun to court at Maxwell annex

The Maxwell Airmen who suited up against the Harlem Wizards bit off a bit more than they could chew Feb. 7. The Wizards not only won the game - they haven't lost a game in their 50-year history -- but they did it with the antics often seen in Saturday morning cartoons.

The Wizards, a show basketball team, combine athleticism, tricks, fancy teamwork, ball handling and comedy.

Col. Susan Schlacter, the 42nd Air Base Wing vice commander, welcomed everyone to the event and promised everyone the experience would be far from disappointing.

"As you can see, you are absolutely in for a treat tonight. The Harlem Wizards are a first-class organization and have been bringing fun, entertainment and goodwill to the basketball court for more than 50 years," she said.

Schlacter thanked the force support squadron and volunteers for their continued support. The event drew hundreds of attendees to the fitness center annex.

Though the Harlem Wizards are often compared to the Harlem Globetrotters, Todd Davis, the Wizards president, says the groups are pretty different.

"While the Globetrotters are quite well known and many consider them synonymous with show basketball, they do not deliver the kind of connection, feeling, fun, community and excitement that the Wizards do. The Wizard experience is unique in the world. Many fans tell us that the Wizards show is beyond comparison," Davis said. "We do try harder, but even more importantly is that you will laugh harder at a Wizards show."
