3/23/2012 - MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- The Maxwell and Gunter fitness and sports centers offer programs and equipment to meet the base populace's exercise needs.

The centers conduct classes about how to use exercise bikes, steppers, treadmills and elliptical trainers, and conditioning and flexibility programs to demonstrate pre- and post-workout stretches.

A complete aerobics schedule with yoga, step, spinning, kickboxing and Zumba classes is also available. Selectorized Weight Equipment Training, or SWET, focuses on the centers' resistance training machines that offer a full-body workout.

Both facilities include indoor basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts and outdoor running tracks. The Maxwell fitness center also has a track at the fitness center annex. Daily use locker rooms are available there with saunas, and the facilities offer workout areas for cardio fitness, strength training circuits, free weights and cross-training. Fitness assessments are available at the centers.

The Fitness on Request program allows people to choose a workout from a kiosk and then watch as a 110-inch projection screen brings instruction to life.

The fitness center features intramural sports throughout the year, including flag football, ultimate Frisbee, wallyball, basketball, racquetball, volleyball, soccer, golf, softball, dodge ball, tennis, bowling, pickleball and badminton. A variety of 5K runs are also held regularly.

Maxwell fitness center also offers massage therapy by appointment.

For information, contact Maxwell fitness center at 953-5953 or Gunter fitness center at 416-1250.
