Maxwell installation address focuses on base developments

2/22/2013 - MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- The commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing held an installation address for the Maxwell community Feb. 14 at the Air Command and Staff College's Wood Auditorium to provide base-wide updates along with information on specific projects.
The installation address also served as a forum for attendees to share concerns and ask questions about new developments and initiatives being implemented on base.
"Our focus is to develop mission ready Airmen and to operate a world-class installation," said Col. Trent Edwards, wing commander. "We want to be the premier air base wing in the United States Air Force, and the way that we accomplish that is by focusing on mission readiness."
Several leaders from base units such as 42nd Force Support Squadron, 42nd Medical Group, civil engineering and Hunt Housing were on hand to respond to questions in their respective areas.
Edwards discussed cost reduction methods, collaborating with the city of Montgomery in a potential land exchange and professionalism and pride within the work place.
He also emphasized that everyone should go about performing their daily duties with positive attitudes, being aware that "it is a privilege to serve in these challenging times."
During the address, the upcoming unit consolidated inspection was discussed, and one item brought to the audience's attention concerned the use of cell phones.
Major Steven Schutt, 42nd ABW inspector general, noted that the color of cell phones and cases are a commonly reoccurring matter. Some Airmen are unsure about which phone color and case color is officially authorized.
"There are only four colors that a cell phone should be," said Schutt. "Black, dark blue, silver and gray, not hot pink. Cell phone cases should also only be one of the four colors. These rules apply to personal and government issued cell phones."
The medical group commander, Col. Marina Ray, educated attendees about a new program at the clinic called "MiCare." The new program provides a secure messaging system between healthcare providers and patients for lab results and medication fill requests.
Major Natalie Jolly, 42nd FSS commander, announced various new events and activities coming up at Maxwell. Some of the events mentioned were the Harlem Wizards basketball show today, an Easter Egg Hunt March 16 and an Easter brunch March 31. Jolly also mentioned FSS's ability to reallocate funds through supporting base services such as Gunter Lanes bowling center, the auto hobby shop and food and gas services.
Edwards concluded the installation address with a question and answer segment. The leaders of the 42nd ABW answered questions concerning budget cutbacks, dorm renovations and employee workloads. |
