Halloween safety 10/29/2010 - MAXWELL-GUNTER AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- The Maxwell Air Force Base, Gunter Annex community will observe Halloween from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30. That night, children will be going door-to-door throughout Maxwell-Gunter housing areas trick-or-treating in search of candy and fun. The safety of the children is a priority. The 42nd Security Forces Squadron and volunteers from other organizations will be in Maxwell-Gunter neighborhoods to ensure their safety and that of all participants involved. To make Halloween a safe night, please consider the following tips: Ensure costumes are flame retardant. · Keep costumes short enough to prevent tripping and falling. · Try to use makeup instead of masks. Masks can be hot, uncomfortable and can obstruct vision. · Children should wear light colors or put reflective tape on their costumes for visibility. · Trick-or-treaters should always be in groups or accompanied by parents. · Children shouldn't enter a stranger's house or car. · Children shouldn't eat their treats until they return home. · Inspect treats at home in a well-lit area. · Only eat unopened candies in original wrappers. Do not forget to inspect fruit for anything suspicious. These are just a few things to help make Halloween a safe night. Housing residents wishing to give candy to trick-or-treaters should turn on their porch lights.
