Remembering the Holocaust
Rabbis Scott Kramer of Agudath Israel Etz Ahayem Synogague in Montgomery, Ala., and Rabbi Elliot Stevens of Temple Beth, Ore., meditate during the lighting of the candles at Maxwell’s Days of Remembrance ceremony April 24. The service featured a historical background of the Holocaust by retired Senior Master Sgt. Dave Barry, a reading in unison by Staff Sgt. Benjamin Levenson and closing remarks from Col. Kris D. Beasley, 42nd Air Base Wing commander. Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Yom Hoshoah, was established by Congress to commemorate more than five million victims of the Holocaust. This year's theme is, "Never Again: What you do matters." “The story of the Holocaust, however ghastly, offers us an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities in life,” said Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “It’s a chance to remember that what we do, or choose not to do, really matters,” he said. (U.S. Air Force photo by Melanie Rodgers Cox)
