Volleyball, a run and a balloon toss were some of the events that highlighted the 42nd Air Base Wing picnic and sports day May 15 at Hopper-Lodge. Following the opening remarks from Col. Kris Beasley, 42nd ABW commander, the day began with a 5K fitness run and moved on to a health information fair, sporting and children events. After lunch, wing chiefs and first sergeants took on the commanders in a volleyball match, and the day culminated in recognizing volunteers for the event. (U.S. Air Force photo/Jamie Pitcher)

The Maxwell “survivor” tree was dedicated April 24 by 42nd Air Base Wing Commander Kris D. Beasley as part of Earth Day celebration. Planted in the fall at the corner of East Maxwell Boulevard and Magnolia Boulevard, the tree grew from a seed from a tree that survived the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. In honor of the first group of graduates of the Air University Associate-to-Baccalaureate Cooperative program, Lt. Gen. Allen Peck, Air University commander, and Tito Guerreo, Air University Board of Visitors chair, presented a plaque of recognition to Staff Sgt. Lisa Kilpatrick. Sergeant Kilpatrick, an Airman Leadership School instructor from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., was one of the first to complete her ABC degree, accepted the plaque on behalf of all the members of the first cohort of ABC program graduates at a BOV luncheon at the Maxwell Officers Club April 22. At the event, board members had the opportunity to talk with current students of the program about their experiences, and the education they are receiving.
