Day Street Gate construction continues
Work on Maxwell's Day Street Gate is moving along with a scheduled completion date of December 16. The overall $1.3 million project, which is being funded with stimulus money, is divided into three separate projects: construction of a canopy over the road at the gate building; repair work to the gate; and adding a restroom to the gate building. Linda Lowmiller of the 42nd Contracting Squadron said two of the primary reasons for the renovations are to enhance base anti-terrorism measures and to improve working conditions for personnel assigned to work the gate. She said due to halts in the work because of inclement weather, the completion date may extend past December 16. Currently, entrance to Maxwell is only through the Bell and Kelly Street Gates. Wet and Wild
During heavy rains that caused flooding to Maxwell and Gunter May 7, two vehicles stalled at the corner of Ash Street and LeMay Plaza at Maxwell while a larger pickup truck forges ahead through the intersection. Base weather station personnel reported Maxwell received 3.92 inches of rain during the storm. They said the thunderstorm resulted in the worst flooding to the base since Tropical Storm Ivan came through the area in 2004. (U.S. Air Force photo/Carl Bergquist)
