SNCOA honors Tuskegee Airman
While speaking at Gunter's Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy on April 1, Lt. Col. (ret.) Herbert Carter was surprised with the academy's honorary diploma by Lt. Gen. Allen G. Peck (left), commander of Air University. Colonel Carter was invited to the academy to tell of his experiences as a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen of World War II. According to the academy's Chief Master Sgt. Michael Foster, Colonel Carter has spoken to 68 SNCOA classes and more than 20,000 students since 1997. Also shown is Chief Master Sgt. Legislature honors Brig. Gen. Crowell
Brig. Gen. Edward F. Crowell (second from right) was honored March 12 by a joint resolution from both houses of the Alabama Legislature. The resolution honored General Crowell for his Reserve military service career that began as an Airman Basic in the 908th Airlift Wing located at Maxwell. Leaving the 908th as a colonel after 23 years, General Crowell served at two numbered Air Forces before returning to Maxwell as the mobilization assistant to the Air University commander. Sergeant Harris was one of 60 aircrew and maintenance members of Maxwell’s 908th Airlift Wing that deployed for three weeks to Europe, flying missions out of Ramstein, Germany.
