Helping out the community
Lt. Col. Amr Sakr, (left) Egyptian air force and Lt. Col. Karim Asadul, Bangladesh air force, took part in the Air Command and Staff College community service day last month by sprucing up the exterior at the Montgomery Children's Center. Almost 450 ACSC students assisted with projects at 19 different locations throughout the River Region. These included mentoring children and doing repairs at at local elementary schools, visiting veterans, working at local humane societies and building homes with Habitat for Humanity. With a class motto of "unity, family, community" students are working toward contributing more than 5,000 community service hours, and to date have worked close to 3,000 hours in volunteer activities ranging from youth sports, food and blood drives and mentoring Officer Training School candidates. Wingman Safety Day
Airmen from the 42nd Air Base Wing test their strength in a tug-of-war competition at last year's Wingman Safety Day. This year's Wingman Safety Day takes place Oct. 1 and will kick-off at 8 a.m. with a commander's call. Following the call, on- and off-base agencies will have booths set up at the base clinic parking lot until 4 p.m. Agencies taking part include the fire department, public health, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, Montgomery County Sheriff's Department DUI/Drug program, Alabama Department of Health and various Maxwell-Gunter assistance agencies.
