Programs share Prop and Wings run
On Feb. 8, officer candidates from the Air National Guard and officer trainees from the active duty Air Force came together to mark a historical event for the Officer Training School's commissioning program.
Shown here at the finish line are AMS Officer Candidate Shawn Corrigan from Flight 1-17, with Officer Trainees Isaac Dorau and Steven O'Farrell coming in behind him.
The first joint Prop and Wings run was a shared common experience between the Academy of Military Science and the Basic Officer Training programs.
"This morning's run was a remarkable way to reflect our Total Force," said Col. Roger Watkins, the Holm Center commander. "When we go to war, we go to war together. We have the same training requirements, the same deployment requirements and the same mission requirements, so it's only appropriate we take these kind of opportunities to work together as a Total Force team."
About 230 students along with OTS staff and members from the 22nd Training Squadron ran more than five miles around historical Maxwell Air Force Base and paused to reflect on its great heritage.
Colonel Watkins stressed the importance of the day's event to the students: "Today marks a distinct point in your training as future leaders. Be proud of what you've accomplished today, but don't rest on your laurels - your journey has just begun."
