ACSC students visit CNN Headquarters, discuss military-media relations

Ryan Burle, from “Inside CNN,” guides students from the Air Command and Staff College through the news network’s Headquarters facilities Nov. 20. The visit included discussion of military-media relations with Jim LeMay, consultant for CNN, and a subsequent trip to the Defense Video and Imagery Distribution System facility, also located in Atlanta. The students’ trip was part of the elective course “The War for Public Opinion,” produced by the U.S. Air Force Public Affairs Center of Excellence. The course provides future leaders with an understanding of the impact of modern global information environment and the need for members of the armed forces at every level to be prepared to communicate effectively with the public they serve. Helping out the community

Lt. Col. Amr Sakr, (left) Egyptian air force and Lt. Col. Karim Asadul, Bangladesh air force, took part in the Air Command and Staff College community service day last month by sprucing up the exterior at the Montgomery Children's Center. Almost 450 ACSC students assisted with projects at 19 different locations throughout the River Region. These included mentoring children and doing repairs at at local elementary schools, visiting veterans, working at local humane societies and building homes with Habitat for Humanity. With a class motto of "unity, family, community" students are working toward contributing more than 5,000 community service hours, and to date have worked close to 3,000 hours in volunteer activities ranging from youth sports, food and blood drives and mentoring Officer Training School candidates.
