With air and road temperatures in the immediate vicinity of Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex forecast to remain above freezing, there is no indication there will be unsafe road conditions near the base. Therefore, Maxwell and Gunter will remain open on a normal schedule Thursday, unless the forecast changes.
"Safety and common sense must prevail," said Col. Brian Killough, 42nd Air Base Wing Commander. "Regardless of where you are traveling in from Thursday morning, use extra vigilance to remain safe on the roads."
The temperature north of Montgomery may drop low enough to allow for accumulation on roads, especially bridges and overpasses. Col. Killough has authorized liberal leave for civilians to accommodate for the severe weather and the impact of school delays and closures.
Updates can be obtained through the chain of command.
