The great flood of 1929

In March of 1929, flooding in Elba, Alabama caused the governor to declare a state of emergency. He called on Maxwell Field for aid and they responded in full force by completing more than 281 flying missions which provided 50 tons of supplies for the relief effort. This was the first time that food and supplies had been airdropped by US military forces during a major civilian emergency.
