The advertising of these events does not constitute endorsement by the Federal Government or the U.S. Air Force or the information, products or services contained therein.  If military personnel want to volunteer during duty hours, they must receive permission from their supervisor prior to volunteering.  Additionally, military personnel cannot perform service in uniform unless approved in advance by Maxwell Air Force Base Wing Commander.  To receive approval from the Wing Commander, coordinate with the 42 ABW Judge Advocate (JA) and Public Affairs (PA) offices.

Montgomery Emergency Management Agency:

 

Event: Get Alarmed

Day(s)/Date(s)/Time(s): every other Saturday beginning October 14, 2017 (Oct 28, Nov 11, Nov 25, Dec 9)

  EXAMPLE: November 13, 7:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

Location: Multiple locations as neighborhoods are completed we move to another. Volunteers are notified of location the week of action.

Purpose: An anonymous donor through InTouch LLC has donated smoke detectors for every home in the city of Montgomery. Each day we are walking neighborhoods, knocking on doors and asking citizens if they need smoke detectors; if so we can either give to them to install or we will install for them (especially elderly citizens). We started with the Chisholm community.

 

Volunteers Requested: 20 - 30 per week

Duties/Tasks: 9am-11am.

Age Requirements: minimum 16 years old.

Special Skills: able to use an electric screw driver, to install two screws.

Deadline to Sign Up: no deadline, for total event request to know of any volunteers by Wednesday of the week we are working that Saturday

Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF):

 

Event: ASF 4th Annual Tree Lighting

Day(s)/Date(s)/Time(s): Saturday, November 18, 2017

Volunteer hours are from12 noon – 8:00 p.m.

Event Time is from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Location: Alabama Shakespeare Festival, One Festival Drive, Montgomery, AL  36117

Purpose: Non-profit theatre, education and entertainment

 

Volunteers Requested: 30

Duties/Tasks: Directing patrons, assisting vendors, making and distributing hot chocolate (for thousands of people!) and donuts, assisting with carriage and horses, assisting in wassail room, keeping people off the stage inside the theater, assisting Santa, assisting with kid's crafts, assisting in hanging signs, tent set-up and break-down, helping herd performers on and offstage, other duties as assigned.  Volunteers should be ready to wear ASF t-shirt (provided) and wear comfortable/sturdy shoes (no flip flops or sandals)

Age Requirements: Volunteers should be at least 16 years of age* (*exceptions may be made for an older child accompanied by a parent or for a special event group activity - i.e. Boy Scouts ushering in a group).  Volunteers should dress in all black and sensible shoes (no flip flops!)

Special Skills: Willingness to engage with people and welcome them to the theater.  For volunteers that have a skill set applicable to other areas of the theatre (i.e. technical, costumes, etc.) please send an e-mail, other volunteer opportunities are available.

Friday, December 1

Set Up/Decorating (15 people), 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.: setting up tables, chairs, etc.; decorating trees, activity tables, sorting toys, etc.

Saturday, December 2:

Food Servers:

(15 people), 7:45 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: Serve breakfast to attendees.

Santa Claus:

(1 person) 7:45 am-11:30 am: Engaging positive conservation, lifting children upon lap and taking photos with children.

Elves:

(5 people) 7:45 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: Assisting Santa with visitors and presents.

Crafters:

(25 people) 7:45 a.m.- 11:30 a.m.: for things such as Face Painters, Snowman Ornament, Jingle Bell Necklace, Snowman Bracelet, Christmas Picture frame, etc.

Shuttle Drivers:

(2 people), 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: Shuttling guests to and from parking area to hangar.

Tear Down:

(15 people), 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.: Helping with clean up and tear down of tables, chairs, etc.

Event: Retiree Appreciation Day

Location: Honor Guard Hanger- LeMay Plaza, Bldg. 842, Maxwell AFB, AL 36112

Purpose: Assisting with showing appreciation to our local military retirees

Volunteers Requested: 68

 

Duties/Tasks:

1. Set up- 20 Volunteers, 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.: set up, clean, and put table cloth on tables.  Set up chairs, podium with PA system.  Help stage cooking areas with grills, tables, coolers full of ice, and trash cans.  Assist with stand-up of booths.  Put trash cans throughout area and line with trash bags.

2.  Cooks- 12 Volunteers, 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or as needed:  Stage cooking areas and manage food preparation, cooking, and cleaning within the cooking areas.  Put drinks on ice and ensure coffee is made and is maintained throughout the event.

3.  Greeters- 6 Volunteers, 9:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or as needed: Be available to greet members and hand out brochures.  Assist DV’s as needed.

4.  Parking/Traffic & Cross guards- 10 Volunteers, 09:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or as needed: Manage and provide guidance to members parking in designated areas, assist with traffic flow as needed.

5.  Tear Down- 20 Volunteers, 1:30 p.m. until clean up done   : Dispose of table clothes, wipe down equipment, take down tables and collect chairs for turn in.  Collect trash throughout the area as needed and ensure trash cans are emptied and turned in. 

Arrival Time: based on duty: 1. Set up, 7:30 a.m.  2. Cooks, 8:30 a.m. 3. Greeters, 9:15 a.m.  4. Parking, traffic/cross guards, 9:00 a.m. 5. Tear down, 1:30 p.m. - clean up until done

42nd CES/CEIE   Civil Engineering - Base Environmental:

 

Event: Storm Inlet Marking with aluminum markers (No Dumping Drains to

River or No Dumping Drains to Waterways) for both Maxwell and Gunter.

Materials and supplies will be provided by Base Environmental.

Day(s)/Date(s)/Time(s): Throughout the year as volunteers offer help.

Contact Base Env. Mon. - Fri.  8:00 am - 5:00 pm.  Volunteers can perform services on their own time schedules even on weekends.

Location: 42 CES/CEIE , 400 Cannon St. Bldg 1060, Maxwell AFB

Purpose: Maxwell AFB maintains a Storm water Management Program Plan (SWMP) as required by the State of Alabama to promote awareness to the public that dumping waste down storm drains is prohibited.  Public Involvement is one of our practices meeting our permit requirements for the State and the EPA.

 

Volunteers requested: Does not matter.  Can be a single volunteer or a small group, multiple times throughout the year.

Duties/Tasks: Placing new inlet markers on storm inlets throughout Maxwell and Gunter, which includes removing old markers.

Arrival Times: Anytime (Base Environmental will provide supplies, materials and instructions).

Age Requirements: Those under the age of 18 years must have full-time adult supervision.

Purpose: To provide support and assistance in the event of a major disaster.

Duties/Tasks:

Translators: multiple languages needed, must be fluent in language to read, write and translate

Transportation: must have a valid state driver’s license, 21 years and older, unless active duty.

Arrival Times: During a disaster, request can come anytime day or night.  We ask that you try to be understanding in these times and be as accommodating as possible.

Age Requirements:

Translators; 18 and older

Transportation: 21 years and older, unless active duty

Special Skills: Translators: Must be fluent, Transportation: Valid State Driver’s License
