MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- One of the very first Tuskegee Airmen visited Maxwell on Aug. 14, 2017.
On his first visit to Maxwell, retired Lt. Col. Harold Brown, spoke to Airmen from throughout the base about his experiences as a Tuskegee Airman and educator, as well as visiting the 187th Fighter Wing, which is the current home of the famed Red Tails.
“I had no idea the size of Maxwell and all the stuff that is in it, including all the schools,” Brown said.
During his visit, he reminisced about his years as a Tuskegee Airman, from seeing various photos and artwork hanging on the walls at the many buildings he visited.
“Seeing all of this brings back some very fond memories to say the least,” Brown said. “And it makes me reflect back on what a fantastic life I lived to be a part of all this.”
While visiting the 187th Fighter Wing, Brown had the opportunity to see an F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Brown mentioned to Col. William Sparrow, 187th Operations Group commander, which he was “blown away” by how much technology has changed since flying in a P-51 Mustang.
