Capt Richard Uber, Assistant Professor of Mathematics within AFIT’s Graduate School of Engineering and Management, was selected for the prestigious National Intelligence University’s Center for Strategic Intelligence Research Fellowship program for the academic year 2019-2020.

Launched in 2003, the 12-month fellowship has hosted between 4 and 8 fellows per year from various intelligence agencies and the military services.  NIU Research Fellows are intended to pursue intensive research of critical value to U.S. national security.  As part of his fellowship, Capt Uber will research artificial intelligence and machine learning while working directly with subject matter experts on staff at the Center for Strategic Intelligence Research.

“This opportunity will allow me to take a strategic look at international capabilities in this highly technical discipline. NIU is the ideal place to get involved in research and discussions that will shape future decisions about applications and safeguards for new technology,” said Uber.

Capt Uber earned a PhD in applied mathematics from AFIT in 2016 and a master’s degree in mathematics from Texas A&M University.  Additionally, he is a former Cryptologic Language Analyst and an active member of the Air Force’s Language Enabled Airman Program (LEAP) for Mandarin.
