AETC announces individual, team awards

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. --  AETC Chief of Staff Team Excellence Award

On behalf of Maj. Gen. Anthony F. Przybyslawski, Air Education and Training Command vice commander, AETC is pleased to announce that the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Field Training Team, Holm Center, is among the AETC winners for the 2009 Chief of Staff Team Excellence Award.

The Chief of Staff Team Excellence Award annually recognizes outstanding Air Force team performance and shares best practices within the Air Force. It promotes a systematic approach for enhancing mission capability, improving operational performance and achieving sustained results while maximizing efficiency.

The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Field Training Team completed the most extensive and innovative field training overhaul in 60 years.
This self-initiated improvement to the congressionally-mandated program included revamping the cold-war-era curriculum and consolidating from disjointed locations to one center of excellence.

The new curriculum employs realistic and relevant expeditionary training scenarios to evaluate performance and instill a "warrior ethos" in future officers.
Consolidating to Maxwell Air Force Base results in unprecedented standardization and fosters an invaluable "common-and-shared experience" for 2,200 cadets and 1,700 officer trainees.

These trainees can now operate on the identical world-class training complex and begin their officer careers on the same departure path. The team championed game-changing improvements synchronized across accession sources, integrated with our commitment to the joint fight, focused on preparing leaders for asymmetric warfare, and codified as the cornerstone of a modern military education continuum.

DoD David O. Cook Excellence in Public Administration Award

On behalf of Maj. Gen. Anthony F. Przybyslawski, Air Education and Training Command vice commander, AETC is pleased to announce that Christine Bushby of the 42nd Mission Support Group is the AETC winner of the 5th annual Department of Defense David O. Cook Excellence in Public Administration Award.

The award is presented annually to a non-managerial career employee with three to 10 years of civilian federal career service who has demonstrated great leadership potential as a future federal executive, and who emulated Mr. Cooke's dedication to service while helping to promote cooperation and improvement in the department.

Ms. Bushby's management and leadership skills were critical to attending to the needs of bereaved members of the Air Force family during two active duty and four dependent member deaths. She flawlessly executed her skills as a funeral director to ensure the families were handled with dignity and compassion.

During this time, Ms. Bushby authored and coordinated a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding with 13 county coroners and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science and also established the Installation Mortuary Plan. Her tenacity and sensitivity allowed for the cooperation of 38 outside agencies in dealing with mortuary affairs.

Ms. Bushby's professionalism and dedication was pivotal to establishing a positive working relationship with more than 12,000 military and civilians assigned to Maxwell Air Force Base. The award is named in honor of Mr. Cooke whose commitment to duty embodied the noble virtues of public service, as he was widely recognized as a consummate public official promoting a cooperative spirit among DoD leadership and improving DoD operations.
