5/20/2011 - MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala -- The Maxwell and Gunter pools are opening at 11 a.m. May 28 with grand opening pool parties until 1 p.m. and will remain open until 6 p.m. that day. Hot dogs and drinks will be served complimentary with admission.

Operating hours for the 2011 season are Tuesday to Friday, lap swim, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and open swim 1 - 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, open swim 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pools are regularly closed on Mondays. Holiday hours for both pools on Memorial Day, May 30, are 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The pools will be closed May 31. Both pools will re-open with regular operating hours beginning June 1.

Swimmers have two options to enjoy the pools. Daily entry to the pools is $1 per person and $2 per guest, or swimmers may purchase an individual season pass for $30, two for $40 or a family of three or more for $50.

Everyone entering the pool must show a military ID. Two guests are allowed per ID. Children ages 3 and younger are admitted free of charge.

Pool management recommends dependents with military ID ages 11 - 13 get a pool "fish" pass so lifeguards will know they are proficient swimmers. Fish passes are issued after children and youth demonstrate an ability to swim 40 feet, tread water for one minute and pull themselves from the water without using the pool ladder. Fish passes are free and good for the pool season.

Children 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older. Children using the pools must be potty-trained or wear a swim diaper. Wading pools are available for children ages 6 and younger.

For additional information about the pools, contact outdoor recreation at 953-9593.
