Sullivan takes command of LeMay Center, vice commander position of AU

Maj. Gen. Brad M. Sullivan took command of the Curtis E. LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education and vice commander position for Air University from Maj. Gen. Michael Rothstein during a change of command ceremony, July 15, 2019, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

Sullivan, an Air Force Academy graduate, previously served as the deputy director of operations, Operations Team One, National Joint Operations and Intelligence Center, Joint Staff, the Pentagon.

“I could not imagine a more qualified leader,” said Air University Commander and President Lt. Gen. Anthony Cotton, who presided over the ceremony. “The foundations that have been established at LeMay will only be strengthened by General Sullivan’s leadership.”

Cotton also congratulated Rothstein, who will be retiring from the Air Force, for his 31 years of service, emphasizing Rothstein’s efforts as a leader, paving the way for the LeMay Center to become what it is today.

“I want to thank the leadership for all they’ve done for me,” said Rothstein. Their actions have always encouraged me to work harder and become a better leader, I hope you all support [Maj. Gen. Sullivan] the same way you’ve all supported me.”

Sullivan is a command pilot with 4,266 flying hours in MC-130H and C-130E aircraft, including combat time in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a recipient of the General P.K. Carlton Award for Valor and has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels in addition to commanding joint forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.  

“I’d like to thank General Rothstein for everything he’s done and congratulate him for his many years of service,” Sullivan said. “Thank you all so much for this ceremony and a big thank you to my family for always being there for me. I have wonderful kids and I could not be more proud of them for all their continued support, thank you all so much.”

The LeMay Center develops Air Force doctrine, which is advocated in exercises and wargames, represented in joint and multinational doctrine and deployed to Airmen through a multifaceted outreach program. Air University provides full-spectrum education, research and outreach at every level through professional military and continuing education and academic degree granting.
