The commander of the 908th Mission Support Group, Col. Clinton Cash, transferred command of the 908th Security Forces Squadron to Maj. Scott Graves during an Assumption of Command ceremony July 10, 2022 at Maxwell Air Force Base.

Although new to the 908 SFS, Graves isn’t a stranger to Maxwell AFB. For the past five years, he served as a pilot with the 357th Airlift Squadron here. Prior to this assignment, Graves was the assistant director of operations and chief pilot of the 41st Electronic Combat Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona.

During the ceremony, Cash spoke about the incredible amount of change that members may face in the upcoming years.

“While the wing may be in transition to a training mission, the 908 SFS will continue to press ahead by supplying agile combat support to support our nation’s call,” he said.

He then reassured all that Graves brings needed qualities to the squadron and is an excellent choice for commander.

“I’m sure there will be some culture shock, but I have confidence in his ability to rapidly integrate in this new position and lead the squadron into the future,” said Cash.

After graduating from the University of Alabama’s Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2005, Graves completed 12 years of active duty service and entered the Air Force Reserve in August of 2017 as a traditional reservist.

Throughout his time in service, he has flown and directed both combat and reconnaissance operations in the United States Central Command and Pacific as well as serving in Air Education and Training Command, where he trained and led the world’s best pilots.

Additionally, while on active duty Graves assisted in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. As a reservist, he has flown and supported combat operations during Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve.

Graves then closed the ceremony by expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to continue the legacy he inherited from his predecessors.

“I may not be a defender by trade, but I can think of no better unit to join and lead,” said Graves. “I’m looking forward to commanding the squadron and building on the foundation that has already been set by former 908 SFS commander Capt. Chelsea Cove, Chief Master Sgt. Joshua Devine, 908 SFS superintendent as well as other senior leaders.”
