MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- The director of force development for the Air Force told enlisted education leaders to request assistance if needed during a visit to the Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education, Sept. 7-8.
“I view my job as being your advocate,” Crystal L. Moore said during her Barnes Center briefing. “I should be able to advocate for resources and establish policy or guidance you need to execute your mission.”
Moore and Chief Master Sgt. Kimberly Pollard, Headquarters Air Force chief of enlisted developmental education, visited Maxwell Air Force Base-Gunter Annex, for an enlisted professional military education immersion. Moore took over as director in June 2023 and is responsible for the strategies, policies and information technology systems required to foster training and development of the total force. She also serves as the Department of the Air Force Senior Language Authority, establishing policy for language, regional expertise and culture.
The visit consisted of tours and briefings from the Barnes Center, the Community College of the Air Force, the Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy, the Chief Leadership Academy, the Enlisted Heritage Research Institute and others.
“I was able to see all the work that is being done at the Barnes Center in support of advancing enlisted development,” Moore explained. “It’s really amazing to see how much the teams are coordinating and working together and how quickly they can shift to what’s happening in the [strategic] environment.”
As the Air Force continues to reimagine the Enlisted Force Development model, changes will continue to come. By meeting with the Barnes Center team, Moore said she now has a better understanding of what is needed and how to support.
“We’ve been working on that [Enlisted Force Development model] for quite some time and we’ve started to implement some of the changes,” she said. “That begins right here at the Barnes Center.”
Prior to this assignment, Moore was the chief of finance, Air Vehicle Program Management Office, F-35 Lightening II Joint Program Office in Arlington, Va.
