U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Lanham Crabtree has been named "Crusader of the Month" for his exceptional service and leadership with the 42nd Force Support Squadron. Crabtree serves as a professional military education instructor for Airman Leadership School and 15th Flying Training Wing, playing a significant role in the up-and-coming non-commissioned officers who continue to shape the future Air Force.

The Crusader of the Month highlight recognizes outstanding members who significantly contribute to achieving Team Maxwell’s mission, vision and priorities.

Crabtree directly impacts 200 future leaders per year, including civilian, sister service and international students. His mentoring and coaching prepare the next line of NCOs in the Air Force. He strives to be a stellar leader, spending everyday teaching future leaders the lessons of Great Power Competition, Mission Command and more.

“Staff Sgt. Lanham Crabtree embodies the essence of a United States Airman,” said Staff Sgt. Lauren Silverthorne, fellow Maxwell Airman Leadership School instructor. “His unwavering professionalism and sincere concern for others set a standard that elevates everyone around him. Serving alongside him, regardless of rank or grade, is a transformative experience.”

Crabtree led the schoolhouse in upgrading to the Air University benchmark, eCanvas, and Senior Leader Career Management systems, saving his team 400 man-hours per year in administrative and student registrar duties.

“The three words I think of when I think of a great NCO; are discipline, proactive and selfless.” said Tech. Sgt. Shakira Mathis, Airman Leadership School instructor. “Staff Sgt. Crabtree embodies those traits daily and makes a lasting impression on any Airmen he encounters. His work ethic is impeccable, and I am proud to be working alongside him.”

The title of "Crusader" carries deep historical significance within the 42nd Air Base Wing. During their deployment on the Free French Island of New Caledonia in 1943, the Airmen of the 42nd Bomb Group were honored with the nickname "Crusaders" by their French allies, proudly adopting the Cross of Lorraine symbol on their B-25 Bombers. This legacy continues through the 42nd ABW.

Staff Sgt. Lanham Crabtree embodies the spirit of the Crusaders through his unwavering dedication, leadership, and excellence. His contributions not only advance the mission of the 42nd FSS but has also left a lasting impact on the entire Air Force community.
