Staff Sgt. Hannah Clendening has been named "Crusader of the Month" for her exceptional service and leadership at the 42nd Operational Medicine Readiness Squadron. Clendening is an independent duty medical technician that oversees the Tactical Combat Casualty Care program on base, contributing significantly to bolstering the mission readiness of the 42nd Air Base Wing, Air University and beyond.

The Crusader of the Month highlight recognizes outstanding members who significantly contribute to achieving Team Maxwell’s mission, vision, and priorities.

Clendening wears dual hats as both a medical provider treating acutely ill and injured patients and as the supervisor of five civilian and 10 military personnel at the Warrior and Operational Medicine Clinic. Her role as the sole provider is crucial to the 42nd ABW mission, supporting the Wing, Air University, and their surrounding mission partners.

Clendening served as the lead provider for the Reserve Officer Training Corps course, where she was responsible for the care of 2,187 cadets. During this time, she transported 20 cadets to higher levels of care during off-duty hours, ensuring their safety and well-being. Additionally, she trained and managed 15 medical personnel in triage tactics and the field care management of musculoskeletal injuries.

Her leadership and expertise directly contributed to the cadets' successful graduation from the intensive leadership program, enabling them to advance in their professional military education. As a result of her exceptional efforts, the ROTC Commander awarded her an Achievement Medal, recognizing her significant impact on the program's success.

The title of "Crusader" carries deep historical significance within the 42nd Air Base Wing. During their deployment on the Free French Island of New Caledonia in 1943, the Airmen of the 42nd Bomb Group were honored with the nickname "Crusaders" by their French allies, proudly adopting the Cross of Lorraine symbol on their B-25 Bombers. This legacy continues through the 42nd ABW.

Staff Sgt. Hannah Clendening embodies the spirit of the Crusaders through her unwavering dedication, leadership, and excellence. Her contributions have not only advanced the mission of the 42nd MDG but have also left a lasting impact on the entire Air Force community.
