There will be a base-wide power outage at Maxwell Air Force Base on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

During this time, there will be a power interruption that will impact residents and base facilities. Gunter Annex will not be affected.

Please prepare for any potential disruptions to your daily routine, including charging electronic devices, stocking up on necessary supplies, and making alternative arrangements.

Base facilities, including the Base Exchange, Shoppette, Commissary, and Maxwell Credit Union, will be closed during the outage. The outage may also cause temporary closures of inbound and outbound gates.

During the power outage, base residents should take steps to ensure refrigerated food remains safe to eat.

Here are some tips to store your food properly:

  1. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature. A refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours if it is unopened, and a full freezer will maintain its temperature for about 48 hours if it remains closed.
  2. Consider freezing water in containers to create ice blocks that can help keep your freezer cold. Avoid opening the freezer door unless necessary. Every time the door is opened, cold air escapes and the temperature inside the freezer rises.
  3. If you are unsure whether your food is safe to eat after the power outage, use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature. If the temperature of perishable food (such as meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, or leftovers) is above 40°F for more than two hours, it should be discarded.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve the electrical infrastructure on base.
