Tech. Sgt. Fabion Hawthorne, 42d Air Base Wing Inspector General Wing Inspections coordinator, was named the wing’s Crusader of the Month for July.

Hawthorne directs the 42d ABW Unit Self-Assessment Program, leading a 38-member team while overseeing a 166-member Wing Inspection Team responsible for supporting the wing’s inspection and exercise schedule.

Through targeted internal inspections and training on assessment procedures, Hawthorne’s efforts strengthened continuous improvement and risk mitigation across 12 units and 45 mission partners representing four major commands.

Hawthorne also spearheaded the unit’s modernization efforts by developing an inspection program dashboard and training a five-member team to synchronize the tracking of 375 internal self-assessments and 255 deficiencies across 12 units. The initiative improved commanders’ visibility of compliance issues and helped units prioritize corrective actions.

During inspections of the 42d Operational Medical Readiness Squadron and 42d Force Support Squadron, Hawthorne coordinated 18 inspectors who evaluated 35 programs and identified 53 compliance gaps. The inspections helped safeguard care for approximately 3,200 patients and sustain operations supporting 42,000 personnel.

Hawthorne also coordinated 21 volunteers and guided 166 Wing Inspection Team members across 41 units during a base-wide emergency exercise. Their work identified 44 critical readiness gaps involving mass-casualty response and disaster procedures.

Beyond his inspection responsibilities, Hawthorne partnered with Air Force Families Forever to lead a three-member team in organizing a memorial ruck march and vigil. The event honored 77 fallen combat Airmen and promoted survivor support throughout the Maxwell-Gunter community.

Hawthorne is from Spanish Town, Jamaica. In his free time, he enjoys reading, traveling, working out and playing pickleball.

The Crusader of the Month program recognizes 42d ABW Airmen whose leadership, performance and service make a significant contribution to the wing’s mission.
