The 42nd Air Base Wing welcomed its new commander, Col. Andrea Tullos, at Friday's change of command ceremony.

Maxwell-Gunter Airmen and distinguished members of the military and River Region community were in attendance during the transition of leadership ceremony, welcoming Tullos and her family, while bidding farewell to Col. Trent Edwards and his family, whose next assignment is as commander of the 37th Training Wing, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

"It's an honor to be joining the 42nd Air Base Wing," said Tullos. "I am excited to be a part of what is clearly a winning and prestigious team, and I look forward to getting to know you all personally in the upcoming weeks."

The colonel comes to Maxwell from the Pentagon, where she served as chief of the Arabian Peninsula and Iraq Division on the Joint Staff.

The presiding officer for the change of command ceremony, Lt. Gen. David Fadok, president and commander of Air University, said he is confident in Tullos' ability to lead the wing.

"It takes a very special leader to succeed as commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing, and I cannot think of a more qualified couple to replace Col. Edwards and his wife, than Col. Tullos and her husband," Fadok said. "Like Col. Edwards, Col. Tullos represents great talent, and that is why she was such an easy choice to be the next commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing.

Tullos said she is ready for the task of being the new 42nd ABW commander.

"To the men and women of the 42nd Air Base Wing," she said, "I welcome the challenge of taking the wing to new heights."

As the commander, Tullos is responsible for providing base operating, infrastructure and services support for Maxwell-Gunter and its more than 40 mission support partners.

The colonel has also served as the commander of the mission support group at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.; commander of the 379th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron in Southwest Asia; security forces squadron commander at the 568th and 435th SF squadrons at Ramstein Air Base, Germany; and chief of the Antiterrorism and Critical Infrastructure Protection Division at U.S. Pacific Command.
