Customs and courtesies are the universal language for the Joint Force that reinforces the chain of command and communicates respect across all services and ranks. Adherence to these standards is a direct reflection of U.S. Air Force personnel’s discipline and is outlined in Air Force Instruction 1-1, Air Force Standards.
