Do you live off-base and want to enroll your child in Maxwell Elementary and Middle School for next school year (2022-2023)? You can apply beginning Dec. 1.
For next school year, Department of Defense Education Activity will no longer prioritize students who live in close proximity to the installation. This means greater flexibility for military families. Parents now can apply for the pilot program prior to their arrival at Maxwell-Gunter.
Here’s how to enroll:
1. The application portal opens Dec. 1 at 6:30 a.m. CST and remains open throughout the pilot program. 2. Open the application on a personal computer or personal wireless device due to security limitations with Department of Defense computers.
3. Fill out an application for each student you want to enroll.
To be eligible for the pilot program, authorized by the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, students must be a dependent of a full-time, active duty service member with orders to Maxwell Air Force Base or Gunter Annex.
The priorities for new student applicants under the pilot program are:
• Students who were enrolled at Maxwell Elementary and Middle School the previous school year.
• Siblings of students enrolled under the pilot program.
Where two or more students qualify in the same category and grade, the student who submitted the first application will be accepted.
The application will remain open, and administrators will periodically review applications as school enrollment changes. Administrators will contact parents directly if their child was selected for the program. See the school’s webpage for specific dates of the application review process.
Parents can learn more about Maxwell Elementary Middle School and the pilot program at https://www.dodea.edu/MaxwellAFBEMS/index.cfm. For information on local school programs and how to contact the School Liaison Office, visit https://www.maxwell.af.mil/K-12-Schools/School-Liaison-Office/.
It is still important for parents to enroll their children in local schools they’re eligible for, as this application does not guarantee a slot. Also, enrollment for this school year (2021-2022) closes January 3.
