AU’s Barnes Center elevates commandant position to command chief following EPME revitalization
Air University’s Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education elevated the rank of the Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy commandant to Command Chief Master Sgt., June 27, as part of their goal towards revitalizing Air Force enlisted professional military education.
Air Force celebrates three-peat win at the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Leadership and Academic Bowl
The Air Force took top honors for the third year in a row at the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Leadership and Academic Bowl in Washington, D.C., June 23-25. The Air Force Junior ROTC team from Scripps Ranch High School, San Diego, battled it out to take home the trophy for a third time.
Son of World War II British flight cadet visits Maxwell
The son of a British service member made a point to stop at Maxwell on June 15 on a tour of the states to see where his father trained during World War II. Edwin Norton, from Norton Fitzwarren, England, took a nostalgic tour of Maxwell to see some of the places that his father, Edgar John Norton, probably saw when he was at then-Gunter Field as a Royal Air Force flight cadet for flight training during the war.

Maxwell Airman volunteers for MIA mission
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency reports that there are 1,597 service members still missing in action from the Vietnam War. All told, more than 82,000 remain unaccounted for from World War II to present day conflicts. The organization’s mission is to “provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel to their families and the nation.”
Air University releases summer’s ‘Strategic Studies Quarterly’
Air University Press announces the release of the summer 2018 edition of “Strategic Studies Quarterly,” an Air Force-sponsored strategic forum on national and international security. Lieutenant Col. Garry Floyd Jr. from the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Intelligence wrote the feature article: Attribution and Operational Art: Implications for Competing in Time. It creates a model for cyber attribution, analyzing the risks and opportunities of an attribution advantage.
OTS revamps program creating more efficient, effective training environment
Over the past year Air University’s Officer Training School has been revamping program in order to provide a more efficient and effective training experience for its cadets. One of the major changes the school has made has been the implementation of pre-requisite courses designed to cover topics, which otherwise would be done during a mass-lecture when the cadets arrive.

There are many ways to distinguish yourself from a group of people. Maybe you’re the smartest, most athletic or funniest person in a group. Maybe you have a different background or speak a different language. If you’re Gabirele McStanislav-Cudjoe, a cadet in Air Force Officer Training School, you’re from a different country, your first spoken language isn’t English and you came from a different branch of the U.S. military. Of all the differences between McStanislav-Cudjoe and his fellow cadets, however, the one thing that truly makes him stand out is his heart.
Air Force soars during 2018 National High School Drill Team Championships
The nation’s top Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida, May 4-6, for the 2018 National High School Drill Team Championships. The high school students showcased their skills in both armed and unarmed categories in front of judges and military training instructors from all branches of the military during the three day event.
