Colonel Andrea Maya

Col. Andrea Maya serves as the 42nd Medical Group Commander, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. As commander, she is responsible for establishing policies and maintaining standards of practice to govern all medical and dental healthcare services and support programs for more than 37,000 beneficiaries in the Maxwell AFB-Gunter Annex community. Her command authority spans two squadron commanders and a staff of more than 340 personnel. Col. Maya manages an annual operating budget of $24.6 million, a $9 million equipment account and executive oversight of the Alabama central region’s portion of the $23.5 billion TRICARE beneficiary services contract. She also performs extensive planning in support of wartime and peacetime contingencies and deploys medical assets worldwide. 

Col. Maya received a direct commission into the Air Force Medical Service Corps in 2003.  Col. Maya has served at the base, major command, Headquarters Air Force and Office of the Under Secretary of Defense levels. She is a two-time squadron commander, and she has served at all levels in multiple functional disciplines including Resource Management, TRICARE Operations and Group Practice Management. She has performed special duties as executive officer to the Assistant Surgeon General, Health Care Operations, as fellow, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, and most recently as senior budget analyst for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense-Comptroller.  She is also an international health specialist.
