The advertising of these events does not constitute endorsement by the Federal Government or the U.S. Air Force or the information, products or services contained therein.  If military personnel want to volunteer during duty hours, they must receive permission from their supervisor prior to volunteering.  Additionally, military personnel cannot perform service in uniform unless approved in advance by Maxwell Air Force Base Wing Commander.  To receive approval from the Wing Commander, coordinate with the 42 ABW Judge Advocate (JA) and Public Affairs (PA) offices.

Purpose of Event: The Montgomery Bicycle Club promotes recreational and competitive cycling in the central Alabama area, and seeks to increase bicycle safety and awareness by advocating bicycle-friendly transportation policies in the area. We are not anti-motorist (most of us are motorists ourselves); we are pro-bicycle. The ride supports cycling safety, cycling education, cycling awareness and our robust May is Bike Month events. The Boys and Girls Club of the River Region will benefit from this year’s ride.

 

Volunteers Requested: 20-85

Duties: We staff 8 rest stops, a start/finish location, we need road marshals, photographers, and many other tasks. The volunteer sign-up page has all of the various volunteer opportunities.

Arrival Time(s): 4:30 am - 8 am (or later for certain duties that start later in the day)

Age Requirements: No age requirements or restrictions. We have parents that bring kids along to help. Minors require parental consent and/or accompanied by a parent/guardian

Event: Out of the Darkness Walk

Purpose of Event: To raise awareness and support that allows the American Foundation for Suicide

Prevention to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and

support survivors of suicide loss.

 

Volunteers Requested: 20

Duties:

1. Set up (5 people), 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.: set up tents, put out signs, set up tables.

2. Greeters (2 people), 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: greet walkers and direct them to registration,

restrooms, and different events taking place at the walk.

3. Activity Tables (5 people), 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: help walkers at activity tables (passing out honor

beads, painting rocks, butterfly wall, kids coloring table, etc.)

4. Route Support (3 people), 1:30 p.m-4:00 p.m.: walk the route, encourage other walkers, helping at

water stations, watching for overheated walkers, etc.

5. Clean up (5 people), 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.: take down tents, gather signs, take down tables, collect

garbage, etc.

The No. 1 objective to puppy-raising/ dog socializing is LOVE and exposure to lots of things. We want your dog exposed to lots of people, places, noises, and new sights.

You will need to provide your puppy with safe chew toys and teach him what he can and can’t chew on.

You will need to housebreak your puppy.

You will teach him to walk on a leash, sit, lie down, and stay. Depending on how much progress you make, you may be teaching more advanced commands before you know it!

Special Skills: Must love dogs! Willing to dedicate daily training time to a dog.

Puppy-raisers need a family that has a parent who stays home much of each day.

Socializers (partially trained dogs) need to be able to take a dog everywhere that they go.

Purpose: To provide support and assistance in the event of a major disaster.

Translators: multiple languages needed, must be fluent in language to read, write and translate

Transportation: must have a valid state driver’s license, 21 years and older, unless active duty.

Arrival Times: During a disaster, request can come anytime day or night.  We ask that you try to be understanding in these times and be as accommodating as possible.
